What the calculator does

The free birth chart calculator determines sect as part of the natal chart calculation. It does not guess from clock time alone. It calculates the chart, places the Sun relative to the horizon, and labels the chart as diurnal or nocturnal.

Day chart

If the Sun is above the horizon, the Sun leads the chart. Jupiter and Saturn are in sect with it.

Night chart

If the Sun is below the horizon, the Moon leads the chart. Venus and Mars are in sect with it.

Mercury

Mercury is treated separately because the classical tradition judges it by its relationship to the Sun.

Why sect matters

Sect changes how the benefics and malefics operate. Jupiter is still a benefic in a night chart, but it is out of sect and may overpromise or distribute benefits less reliably. Mars is still a malefic in a night chart, but it is in sect and can be more focused, disciplined, and constructive.

That is why traditional astrologers do not read Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, or Venus the same way in every chart. Sect is one of the first conditions checked before making a judgment.

How to use the result

  1. Generate your free chart with birth date, time, and location.
  2. Find the sect note in the reading: day chart or night chart.
  3. Read benefics and malefics through that condition before judging any single placement.

Calculate your sect now

The free chart preview includes sect because day/night distinction is not optional in traditional astrology.
